10 years gone

It's hard for me to believe an entire decade has passed since I last was able to give Mom a hug.  As cold as it was when Dad died, early July 2002 was equally hot.  When plannng Mom's services, we had to keep the July 4th holiday in mind--and with Dad it was the Super Bowl.  10 years!  Really?
Apparently so.  And sometimes we think we were so original.  Ha.

Here's a letter I received from Pudge that I thought you might like.  Nice memories.  It's a kind act to share these reminiscences with family.  I have appreciated these so much that I try to do the same.

Paula tells me the Bruce street house is for sale.  She also recommended that I check out the pictures of the inside, which I did.  You'll want to as well.  Click here or search Ogden Real estate listing 83694.  I have forgotten what we sold the house for but they are asking $125000.  Someone was very generous with the measuring tape in the bedroom listings--Chris' room is listed as 8x8!  Not in my memory.  The Bruce Street house wasn't my favorite (Buffalo St was) but it's linked pretty solidly with how I remember Mom especially.

So here's a favorite Bruce St memory:
So much in this picture worth a mention--not the least of which are those damned swimming trunks.  1987 so they were only maybe 25 years old.  Who painted the stone?  I kind of wish it were allowed to be at the cemetery with him.

Cheers Mom, Dad and 42 Bruce Street!

I love that note from Pudge and Jim (mostly Pudge). I guess I always thought that Mom and Pudge met in college. Funny how what you think is real, isn't.

I love the stories. Even the fact that Mom was pregnant with Chris so she couldn't stand up for Pudge in her wedding! Wow, I never even thought about that.

Those shorts of swimming trunks of Dad's... Oh I was glad when they went! I remember all of us wearing black arm bands. I think Jean and Burt were there when the "burial" happened. I always thought that Jean painted the sign... I don't know why.

My thoughts on 42 Bruce Street: It wasn't Buffalo Street, for sure, but we were getting older and I think that Mom and Dad fugured we'd be out of the house fairly soon. Most of us anyway. Also, I remember Mom saying how much more houses cost in Walton, than in Silver Creek. (Our first brush with the NYC influence.) I remember that they found that house during a flood! They went to Walton house hunting, and encountered a flood. Does anyone else remember that? Anyway, they got a house that never flooded, even in the worst ones Walton has seen. We were lucky that way.

The house sold for about $66,000 as I recall. So the price sure did jump in nine or ten years! The outside hasn't faired very well. All the trees out back were cut down and absolutely no work has been done other than a little trim paint years ago. It looks sad with no flowers and no love showing on the outside. But the pictures are worth looking at.

Thanks for the memories, again.

I personally didnt like looking that the pictures of the house on Bruce Street. I wish I hadnt. I guess I have so many fond memories of family events there and the way it was that I wanted to always picture it the way it was. I miss nanny a lot, I think of her, papa and my mother often especially when something "big" happens in my life or with my children!

I havent even been by the Bruce St place since the the last time we were all there, probably never will. To me that was a house, Buffalo St was our home.
Do not have a clue who did the stone sign, oh well.
