October

I am always happy to see October, and not just because it's my birthday month! It's usually very nice weather and a more relaxed schedule for us. But then, there are the birthdays!!! Jim and Ryan both as well as Taylor, Jess and Breyen.

I always liked sharing my birthday with Nanny. She would have been 98 years old this year, can you imagine? Mom would make the birthday cake with the candy corn decorations for us which always made me feel special. Do you remember some kind of merry-go-round circus cake decoration Mom would use sometimes?

October has not always been good to us, losing both Nanny and Jim's dad in October only about a year apart. Such anniversaries give us good reason to think about the people we love on a regular basis, so even sad memories serve a purpose by keeping loved ones in our hearts.

This picture is from 1960. Paula sure had one saggy pair of diapers going there! I love the Tinkertoys in the background and seeing that dining set we had for so long!

Yes, I have droopy drawers, and a very big head... somethings never change.

I remember the merry-g- round cake decoration. (Of course I do, it had to do with food). I also remember as we got older, Mom would let us pick what color cake we wanted. Mary Jane once had a green cake with yellow frosting! I'm sure Patty Anne enjoyed it because that meant it was vanilla (food coloring is a wonderful thing).

Happy Birthday to all the October birthday folks - Jim's is today, Taylor yesterday. Hope all were great.

Also Congratulations to the newest driver in the family! Ryan passed his driver's test last week. Way to go!
